The day of embryo transfer can be overwhelming given all the energy and effort just to get to that single moment. That’s why we think the integrative approach of Acupuncture, along with the empathy & guidance from our experienced practitioners, can help make the difference on transfer day. Research suggests that not only may Acupuncture boost the success of any given IVF cycle, but it may help ease the mental burden and add the resiliency needed to make it through to pregnancy, regardless of how many cycles are needed.
Our founder Steve Mavros, L.OM. and the Healing Arts Center team have pioneered bringing Acupuncture to all the major fertility clinics in Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley and have been a guide and partner to patients through over 3500 IVF cycles. With experience comes compassion, and a great partner for that important day.
We are credentialed and work with every major fertility clinic in the area. Most treatments occur on site at your clinic immediately before embryo transfer (fresh or frozen).

FAQs
HOW DO I SCHEDULE DAY OF TRANSFER TREATMENT?
As soon as you know the estimated date of your transfer, reach out and let us know (don’t forget to let the clinic know you’re working with us as well!). Most clinics will give the exact timing of your transfer the day before. Once you know this, reach out again (call or text) and we’ll let you know the timing for acupuncture, follow up instructions and which of our providers will meet you at your clinic.
DO I ONLY NEED THE ONE TREATMENT?
Research suggests acupuncture on the day of transfer to be one piece of the puzzle. The full benefits of acupuncture seem to happen with a proper dose of treatments. We usually recommend 4-8 treatments prior to embryo transfer, plus a treatment less than a week post transfer for the best results. Contact us to discuss what schedule would be best for you.
WHAT ABOUT BEFORE & AFTER TRANSFER TREATMENTS?
In the past, the standard for Acupuncturists was to do a treatment both before and after the embryo transfer. Our own research over the last decade combined with recent retrospective studies has shown a single treatment immediately beforehand is actually more successful than the old before and after protocol (Paulus et al). HOW MUCH DOES THE TRANSFER DAY TREATMENT COST?
We generally arrive at the clinic 1 hour prior to the embryo transfer to allow time for changing and for the acupuncture treatment. We use a unique combination of points specifically for embryo transfer and any unique factors of the patient.
